Painting Video Responses

Bob Ross moves:
  • talking really slowly, softly
  • Explaining what he does in detail
  • Painting slowly so that it’s easy to see what he’s doing

Disney artist’s moves:
  • Talking very scripted-like
  • Explaining in detail what they thought about the tree/what they see in the tree
  • Connecting their paintings to the paintings of the other artists
  • Revealing their ideas little by little.

Bob Ross talks more about what he is physically doing than the other artists. This is probably because his videos were meant to literally instruct people. The other artists focus more on why they’re painting what they’re painting rather than how they are painting it. Bob ross wants your attention to be on how he paints so that you can emulate it and the disney painters want your attentions to be on the differences between how they view a single object.

  1. These are some pretty good observations here. I thought the same thing on how Bob Ross talked about his paintings. Also, I think you did a great job on the format. Anyways, I also agree with you on the DIsney painters analysis. It was more of an informal process that they were describing.

  2. Random thought: I like the way you used font color. I totally agree about how the disney artists are different from Bob Ross. They constantly refer back to the subjects of their paintings while he goes off of memory and imagination.

  3. I like the set-up that you used in answering the questions it’s short and easy to read. You also point out the major moves in a very right to the point manner. There is no fluff. I forgot to mention in my answers on how they talk like they are speaking from a script. I also like the compare and contrast using different colors since it makes easy to know who does what. Them trees though.
